Voters should be assured that I absolutely do not support raising the retirement age for Social Security.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
I have a statement on the Social Security. A lot of people approaching that age have either already retired on pensions or have made irreversible plans to retire very soon... I consider it a breach of faith to renege on that promise. It is a rotten thing to do.
I would not vote to raise the retirement age to 70 because there are just too many Americans that work hard all their lives and just simply physically couldn't work until they are 70.
I don't support getting rid of Social Security.
I support voluntary personal retirement accounts for Social Security. It should be people's free choice.
I am philosophically opposed to raising the retirement age. I misspoke and said I was not philosophically opposed.
I stand with the millions of seniors and working people who depend on Social Security and who expect the money they put in to be there for them when they retire.
I know of no serious proposals that would change the way Social Security operates for today's seniors.
But here's what I would tell people of my generation. I turn 40 this year. There isn't going to be a Social Security. There isn't going to be a Medicare when you retire. Forget about what your benefit is going to look like. There isn't going to be one if we don't make some reforms to save that program now.
Well, we certainly need to raise the retirement age. I've told my 19-year-old and my 22-year-old that they're not going to be getting retirement benefits at age 62.
I'm not philosophically opposed to raising the retirement age... I accept the fact that I may have to raise my retirement age for that.
