We live in a world that relies on technology.

Our power is not so much in us as through us.

So one begins to wonder what is going to happen to the human race. Technology keeps on advancing with greater and greater power, either for good or for destruction.

Today, we're very dependent on cheap energy. We just take it for granted - all the things you have in the house, the way industry works.

We waste an awful lot of energy as a Nation through inefficient use of energy.

We are putting more and more power into a system which is less and less able to carry it reliably.

It's not that we use technology, we live technology.

As a culture or a civilisation, we are a bit juvenile; it's like 'Oh, I have all this power, whoa, this is so cool, I can transform the earth and I can produce all this wealth. But we're blinded by our success in a naive way. There's more to life, actually, and I think the sustainability issue is also helpful in reminding us about that.

We need to develop clean, affordable, and reliable energy sources, and frankly, we need to license that technology to the rest of the world.
