I do go through periods of obsession with certain records.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
The first sign of real obsession with music was with an old wind-up gramophone that mum had thrown out into the garage. My parents gave me three old 45s - two Supremes records and one Tom Jones record - and I used to come home from school literally every day, go out to the garage, wind this thing up, and play them.
I have heard some stuff that might be influenced by my records, but it's usually pretty wacky and off-the-wall, which is kind of annoying, to be frank.
I'm really obsessed with the past.
When I make records, I never listen to stuff after it's done. Ever.
A lot of stuff I do out of pure obsessiveness.
My interests and obsessions have always been so wide-ranging that I keep popping my head out of different boxes as much as possible.
All of the things I used to obsess over, I'm no longer as obsessed with. I have new concerns but they're a little more existential or cosmic.
I think everybody has something that they've been obsessed about in their lifetime.
I don't spend much time listening to the records when they're done. Usually I let go of it. Especially in the Eighties and Nineties - they were like product, almost.
I remember when I was in my late teens just getting rid of lots of records, realizing I only ever listened to them when I was reading, or watching TV, or doing something else.
