I'm reading scripts, desperately wanting to work. I've set a couple of things up for next year.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
I've read some scripts, but I don't read as many books as I should.
I have a stack of scripts that I've read - I'm in the lucky position where I get offered things - but I haven't wanted to direct many of them.
I feel that I don't have to wait around for good scripts anymore, that I can get things moving more quickly. I can ring up directors I like and say I'm keen to work with them, which is pretty great.
If a script is good, you are 10 steps into the part just reading it. But my choices are not all down to my taste. It is about people you have worked with before.
I read as many scripts as I can and just find stuff that I think is interesting, find stories that I think are worth telling.
I've been very fortunate with the scripts I've had and the people I worked with.
We've read scripts, and I think right now we are just focusing in on school.
It's important to read as much as you can because you never know when you will find the best script that you want to do next. I'm always quite picky in what I read and what I go for.
Some of the material out there - I don't want to say that it's all bad - but there's a lot of bad stuff out there. You just continue reading scripts, and eventually you find something you connect with.
It's my job to write the best book I can each month and hand my scripts in. Everything else is beyond my control.
