I like surprises.

There's not much TV these days where you really get that element of surprise. There are so many spoilers all the time.

That's how you get surprises, because what movies are all about is surprises.

So much of television is incredibly predictable. You watch the first five minutes and you know where it's going to go. If you can just create an element of surprise in both the storytelling and tone of a show, you're going to be way ahead of the pack.

I like shows that are surprising and not predictable. That have deep, rich characters that are fully formed.

For me, if you distill comedy down, it is surprise and the unexpected. That has to be it on its most base level, in any form.

I do not believe they've run out of surprises.

I love to watch good actors who surprise and amuse me.

I don't know why it surprises people that I surprise them.
