Making a video is one of the most exciting things for artists and fans. It's like a payoff.

I get offers to do huge-budget music videos with big production companies all the time, but I have no interest.

Videos have to go hand in hand with your music, so that's why, ultimately, they should be created by the artist. And if they're not, it doesn't really add up to me.

Back in the day people made music to go on tour. They didn't make music to make a video.

I guess my job has always been to build the music, direct the videos, to do all the things that usually fall behind the scenes.

Eight years ago, if I wanted to do a YouTube video, I broke out my camera and filmed everything myself and learned how to edit and kind of become a one-woman studio. But we're living in an era now, thanks to ICON, where any creator who is online, they can create in their own space.

Before YouTube, I was playing in restaurants and doing open mics - every once in a while, I'd throw an original in there. And then YouTube kind of just opened doors for me, so once I felt like I had an audience to share music with, I began to share my original music.

The whole format of entertainment that I did seems to be fading away. The music business of today is completely different when you see the videos and the music.
