I don't think Estonians ever really hated Russians. It was more, 'Leave us alone.' We can't change what is past. We can't blame them for what their parents have done. We never hated them. They didn't destroy us that bad.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
I am not always happy with the compliments Estonia has received.
We feel free. We're independent. People can be openly proud of being Estonian. I have a lot of belief in Estonia.
The way I understand it, the Russians are sort of a combination of evil and incompetence... sort of like the Post Office with tanks.
Russians aren't perfect. Their politics are messed up, and they keep going through self-defeating economic cycles. But I have a lot of respect for Russia, and a lot of love for Russians.
I hope one day when I say I'm from Estonia, people don't say: 'What? Where's that?'
We were fortunate to have the Russians as our childhood enemies. We practiced hiding under our desks in case they had the temerity to drop a nuclear weapon.
I love the Russians for their verve, their melancholia, their vivacity, their unpredictability, and their humour.
You have to remember that Finnish people hate art.
From being a patriotic myth, the Russian people have become an awful reality.
The Finnish way of dealing with Russia, whatever the situation, is that we will be very decisive to show what we don't like, where the red line is.
