I'm not going for a soft sound. I ain't lookin' for a warm sound. My sound is warm, but I don't need tubes to do it. The Randall RG-100 is the best amp for what I do.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
I'm usually listening to Sirius Satellite in the morning. 'The Heat' usually plays good music.
Just because something has tubes doesn't mean it's the best. I mean, tubes are obviously good, but the circuit of this thing is designed well and it sounds good.
My first killer amp was a Sunn Beta Lead. It was solid-state, but that Sunn was incredibly loud. I used to say to my friends, 'Hey, check it out. It's only on two.'
I like real instruments, and try to stay from anything that sounds too synthetic.
I need a little bass and I don't even need that crazy bass to break your face. I just want it to sound good when I have my favorite song.
My sound is very smooth. Not to be to cliche, but really sensual and sultry.
I have an amp that doesn't have a master volume. It sounds awesome, but we just can't get an appropriate decibel level out of it.
My ears won't fool me. Even when I do a session on digital, we still warm it up somewhere in the process, in mastering or mixing, running the signal through some tubes somewhere.
The older I get, the more I just like plugging directly into my amp. I'm tired of trying to impress myself with weird sounds. It's about the notes more.
That's the thing I like about my sound. It's real raw and very unsafe compared to a solid state kind of sound.
