You make your music, then you try to find whatever audience is out there for it.

Oh God, it's such a big world right now for artists. There are as many possibilities as you can have time for, getting your music out there with the internet, and Youtube, Vimeo, Facebook, and everything that you have, there is a way to spread the word. To me, the first thing you have to have is substance and content and real depth.

After you make good, quality music, then it's your job to go out there and promote it and to market it and to get it out there to the people.

Nowadays, with the state of the music business, for any artist, whether you're up-and-coming or you've been in it for awhile, you have to explore different revenues and different ways of expressing yourself.

I think no matter how you think about your music, you're ultimately in the music 'business.' I think you have to be business-minded in some sense. And for me, the real goal... is positive intention and social change through music. It doesn't mean that can't turn a profit.

Art isn't held with the same high regard as it is after success. In any country, in any language, you're a loser if you're making music until you prove otherwise.

I get interested in the various ways that music is being done in the culture, and some of it I like thoroughly enough to want to learn about it. The way I have been successful at doing that is to become part of it.

I feel sometimes that I'm in a constant state of being lost in translation, and I guess that why I write songs.

Most artists, you know, you spend their entire lives learning how to play music and write songs, and they don't really know how the music business works.

Music is its own language - if you don't speak it, it's hard to say what you're trying to do.
