I don't think there's any reason on Earth why people should have access to automatic and semiautomatic weapons unless they're in the military or in the police.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
I know we don't need automatic weapons, but the question may boil down to what is an automatic weapon.
Semi-automatic weapons have no socially redeeming purpose.
Obviously, we think it's important to make sure that firearms do not get in the hands of people who are criminals, convicted felons or adjudicated as mentally ill.
I think, for me, anybody who is a terrorist should not have access to firearms.
If people want to own a rifle or something like that for hunting purposes only, I tend to agree with that. But semi-automatic weapons and handguns, that's just unreal. I mean, what good are handguns?
Do we really need to arm our citizens with machine guns or semiautomatic weapons? And don't we need to make sure that people who do own guns are qualified to own them?
Common sense should tell us that there is no reason for civilians to have access to easily concealable handguns with the capability to shoot through body armor.
In my opinion, the only people who should have handguns are the police.
Arguments that we will never stop all shootings by restricting access to such weapons fails to account for our strong and common desire at least to stop many of them - or any of them.
It is because the people are citizens that they are with safety armed.
