What you discover when you look at creativity from the perspective of the brain is that it is universal. We're all creative all of the time, we can't help but be creative.

When you're a creative person, there are just times when you're not listening. You know, I could be looking right at you and thinking about something else.

I consider creativity to be a more non-rational, subconscious thing. You have a relationship to your creativity - you can feed it with content, with some rational prodding and sleep and things like that, but the mechanisms by which your creativity work are largely unknown.

I've always been comfortable thinking things through and doing it, more or less, my way. You can be as creative as you want, but if you're... unwilling to work on the details, to see those put into action, then creativity is just dreams, or worse, hallucinations.

As a creative person you just get an idea in your head, and sometimes you just can't shake it off.

Of course creativity is a mystery. We don't know what drives it or what constitutes it. It's one of those things, like genius, you know it when you see it but it's impossible to define.

Sometimes you have to stop thinking. Sometimes you shut down completely. I think that's true in any creative field.

The nature of creativity is to make space for things to happen... We can drive it out with our busyness and plans.
