The role of a comedian is to make the audience laugh, at a minimum of once every fifteen seconds.

The touring comic is a lonely soul, sometimes dabbling into conversation with a colleague in the green room, but on the whole, we just stand around and try to cope with the random diversity that comes with the 'job.'

For most of my career I did one comic a day, every day, including weekends and holidays.

As you get older as a comedian and keep doing it, what you actually start to cherish on stage is not the build-up to the jokes, but how comfortable you can be in the silence and the non-laughing parts, and how long you can take the audience without a laugh to then get a huge reaction.

I always like to watch comics and it's interesting that you can tell if someone's funny in 10 seconds.

Laughter is an instant vacation.

If I get a hard audience they are not going to get away until they laugh. Those seven laughs a minute - I've got to have them.

You can imagine sitting in a room for three days talking about comic books, eight hours a day. It gets wacky and very nerdy. It also gets contentious at times.

I don't laugh out loud at comics a lot.
