I'm on the board of the Sierra Club Foundation and am myself a big environmentalist. But the way to make the biggest difference is to change mainstream behavior.

I support the Surfrider Foundation, which is focused on protecting the oceans and beaches. I also recycle and use mass transit, ride my bike as often as I can, or I walk, which is one of the best parts about living in New York City.

I became interested in ocean issues in the 1980s when I couldn't take my daughters swimming because of pollution at our local beach. Twenty-five years later, I'm a board member of Oceana, the world's largest international organization dedicated to ocean conservation.

I wanted to help raise awareness, so I created an environmental foundation called Just Within Reach.

I support many organizations that I feel are doing the right thing, like Alonzo Mourning's foundation, Alicia Keys' foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and other well-established foundations. I kick out a lot of time and money wherever I can.

My foundation is based on helping children, and I hand-pick projects that are close to my heart and home.

I began working with the John Muir Institute and then started helping found Friends of the Earth organizations here and there in other countries. That pretty well brings us up to the present.

I'm obviously very involved with my own charity and foundation that I work with. Obviously, I'm very passionate about that.

I've been a philanthropist for all my life, and... I've had many involvements in humanitarian and environmental issues.

I have my own foundation, which I just started, called Believe Anything Is Possible, which is going to be an organization to help the underprivileged.
