In 1998, I started a blog, something I could control very easily and update at my own whim.

If somebody crafts an interesting tweet that'll lead me to their blog, I'm going to their blog.

Send it to someone who can publish it. And if they won't publish it, send it to someone else who can publish it! And keep sending it! Of course, if no one will publish it, at that point you might want to think about doing something other than writing.

When topics are complex and meaty, don't create a never-ending email thread. It's amazing how much time people waste composing and reading carefully-worded essays, when a 5 minute in-person chat would resolve the whole thing.

Blogging is great, and I read blogs all day long. However, my goal is really to have a deep, meaningful discussion with people. For some reason, I'm able to accomplish this best via email.

I'm sort of awkward with technology, and I think I'm the type of guy who would have something cool happen to him, and it would take, like, five days to figure out how to tweet it.

Never blog just to put something out there. I would post only things that excite me.

I really wanted to do something positive on the Internet. I wanted to try to get young people talking about, thinking about, life's big questions-make it cool and OK to wonder about the heart, the soul and free will and God and death and big topics like that, big human topics.
