YouTube is a platform, a distribution vehicle.

The Internet is a free and open platform. Everyone has the right to speak. However, compliance with the law is the bottom line that no one should violate.

No matter what you do, any country in the world is going to have the ability to set its own rules internally. Any country in the world can pull the plug. It's not a question of technical issues, it's not a question of right or wrong, it's not a question of whether global Internet governance is right or wrong. It's just with us.

Whether it's Baidu or Chinese versions of YouTube or Sina or Sohu, Chinese Internet sites are getting daily directives from the government telling them what kinds of content they cannot allow on their site and what they need to delete.

Since the web is totally worldwide, we need a set of behavioural rules, laws they are commonly called, that are accepted worldwide. There is a big difference as to how things are treated in the U.S. and Europe and Asia.

People think that it's their sovereign right to download music and not have to pay for it.

What we have noticed at YouTube is that many users who have uploaded infringing content are unaware that it's illegal to do so.

I think I need to accept the fact that I am where I am today because fans have shared my music illegally and legally, but I wouldn't be here today without the Internet, so I can't speak out against it.

I'm not a big believer in our copyright laws; I find them way too restrictive.

What I'm concerned about is making sure that every single time somebody who grew up with us goes off to a different platform or a different device, we're going to be there with a Univision-branded product of some kind.
