I think that big, sort of theatrical relaunches tend to set you up for failure and hype.
Despite all the efforts of art dealers, the number of Rembrandts existing at a given time is limited; yet such paintings are commonly disposed of by auction.
So, if you look at what's common among some of the companies I have, including the Four Seasons, NewsCorp, George V, the Plaza, these are all irreplaceable brands in their own fields.
I do reinvent old hits of mine and sort of give them a new life.
There are a lot of movies that I don't care about, especially not remakes.
Anyone who tells you they don't need to rewrite, they're usually the ones who need it worst.
Personally, I'm not too fond of remakes.
Reruns are wonderful because it usually indicates that they had something going for them to begin with and that's why you're still looking at them. And in both my shows, The Dick Van Dyke Show and the last one, they were so well written and so good they hold up.
Just as established products and brands need updating to stay alive and vibrant, you periodically need to refresh or reinvent yourself.
