Rather than saying, 'My checking account is a wreck,' change it to 'I will learn how to track my spending and balance my checkbook.'

It's neither my job nor within my capabilities to save people. But a book sure can try.

I'm grateful that I've enjoyed the support of libraries, bookshops and institutional funders.

Now my only income is a few royalty cheques from my books.
