Google did a great job hacking the Web to create search - and then monetizing search with advertising. And Apple did a great job humanizing hardware and software so that formerly daunting computers and applications could become consumer-friendly devices - even a lifestyle brand.

I thought Google was the coolest place. People there were so smart and they were all doing these really interesting things. I just felt really lucky to be a part of it even in a small way.

All the information in the world has been pretty dispersed, but Google's mission has been to organize it and make it universally accessible.

The promise of the early web was that everyone could have a website but there was something missing. Maybe the technology wasn't ready.
