I think there are four or five interesting pockets where a lot of cool technology companies are getting started. Chicago is one of them. New York is certainly another. Silicon Valley really dominates. And you're seeing some stuff out of Boston and Seattle and down South.

Most companies don't have the luxury of focusing exclusively on innovation. They have to innovate while stamping out zillions of widgets or processing billions of transactions.

Innovation in an existing company is not just the sum of great technology, key acquisitions, or smart people. Corporate innovation needs a culture that matches and supports it.

From an app point of view, if you looked at innovation on the PC, you'd be hard pressed to find companies innovating. The list is small.

New York is very career-orientated and it's hard to take time off here, but that is great for building a business.

Anytime there is a new, interesting space that comes along, there are a bunch of companies that enter the market.
